Dr. Manhattan, whose real name is Jonathan "Jon" Osterman, is a fictional character who first appeared in the comic book series *Watchmen* #1 in 1986.

Osterman was a watch repairer who inadvertently walked into an intrinsic field chamber during an experiment in 1959. The resulting accident completely disintegrated his body. However, he slowly reconstructed himself, eventually becoming a god-like being with vast powers, including manipulating matter at a subatomic level, teleportation, precognition, and immortality.

As Dr. Manhattan, he possesses a detached perspective on humanity and emotions due to his extended lifespan and understanding of the universe. He becomes a key strategic asset for the United States government in the Cold War era, but his existence also creates tension and fear worldwide.
