Biography:
Dr. Manhattan, formerly Jon Osterman, is a central figure in the Watchmen comic book series. His first appearance was in Watchmen #1, published in 1986.
Osterman was a watchmaker's son who became fascinated with atomic physics. While working in a test chamber, he was caught in an intrinsic field generator experiment gone wrong. This accident seemingly disintegrated him.
Some weeks later, a godlike being slowly began to manifest. This being possessed vast powers, including manipulation of matter at a subatomic level, precognition, teleportation, and near invulnerability. He became known as Dr. Manhattan.
Dr. Manhattan's powers significantly altered the geopolitical landscape of the Watchmen universe, granting the United States a massive advantage during the Cold War. However, his increasing detachment from humanity and his perceived lack of empathy become major plot points within the story.
